I'll see your hipster nonsense and raise you a pretentious anachronism.

I’m going to experiment with hiring an assistant to write up my handwritten notes, so I can do more of my work with just a pen and a notebook. Although I am a decent typist and very happy in Emacs, the computer still gets in the way. Pen and paper is an ideal toolset for thinking, it really doesn’t get in the way.

I already have a stack of notebooks that I’ve filled up over the years, plus journals that I’ve stashed away since I was a kid, so I’m not trying to adopt a new way of working. I’m just considering how I can expand the application of the tools I enjoy using the most. I have a lot of valuable information about my work written down on paper. Sometimes I move on to the next thing before my writing makes it into a workable digital form. I do good work on paper. What if I could do more of my work with the freedom (and the constraints) of handwriting?

Let’s hope this isn’t a ridiculous waste of my time and money.
